Lemme tell you suttin
I was an advertising major back in college, and I can’t stand false advertising. Which is why I’m still not over the fact that one of my favorite stores claims to offer larger plus-size clothes. If you couldn’t tell by the title, we’re talkin bout H&M.
A little (Her)story
Starting its brand to empower young, trendy women everywhere, H&M began in the late 1940s by a dude named Erling Persson. Originally called Hennes (Swedish for ‘her’), it was a retail store that strictly sold women’s clothing. However, 20 years later Persson brought on board Mauritz Widforss, a men’s outfitters. And then was born the H and the M.
My Beef?
There’s that “all women matter” notion that H&M (and other fraud brands) perpetuates, but did you forget that all women include plus-size women? I know the industry is slow when it comes to open-mindedness, but if women like Ashley Graham (who they dressed for the Met Ball), Danielle Brooks, and Nicollette Mason all have clothing lines, then…well…c’mon dude. There’s a need for this. Not to mention stores would make themselves more money. But what do I know about business, right?
H&M Plus is a ‘barely there’ kind of thing
And what I mean by that is it’s a basic ass line of clothes. There’s nothing but sweats, boring sweaters, a ripped jean here and there, and a handful of duster jackets. Plain and simple, I don’t see any Alexander Wang or Balmain collabs anywhere near this H&M line of plus clothes. Here’s what they got for us on site (cuz like, pics, or it didn’t happen, right?):
When I go to H&M, I’ll usually shop in the men’s section because their clothes fit bigger and they’re obviously way cooler. But on my way to the teeny tiny men’s rack, I clearly can’t miss the carousels of women’s clothes…that stop at a size 10 or 12.
So, what I’m saying is…
H&M doesn’t carry their plus-sizes in-store (and please prove me wrong on this one). I don’t see an “online exclusive” sign anywhere on their site, but I damn sure never see me a 18 or 20 in any of the H&M stores (I mean I live in NYC, dude).
Have you found any plus-sizes in any of H&M’s brick & mortar stores? How do they compare against the regular sizes? Tell me in the comments, babe.

Preach! And what they do have below a size 12 runs ridiculously small. I wear a size 8 in almost any other store and have never been able to fit anything in there except jewelry, lol. It’s pretty distorted.
I noticed H&M plus disappeared. My friends and I went to one store, and they told her plus was only carried online or another location 30 minutes away. I get trying to have things on the floor but get rid of some of that make or accessories or overpriced coats no one is buying.
Good point to raise! You tell ‘em!
Also even looking at their items that are allegedly L or XL super aren’t! I got an XL bra from there and nearly suffocated putting it on! It was a medium at best and a total waste of money
