I’m not proud to say I’ve spent an exorbitant amount of money on Parade underwear over the course of a year. However, plus size underwear, or the lack thereof, had me settling for panties that were uncomfortable and dug into my bikini lines.

The ‘plus size underwear’ I was working with
To be honest, I was pretty much collecting underwear over the years. Whether it was Target or Walmart, my mom would just nab my sister and I several undies in a pack. Once junior high and high school started, I had to wear a skirt and tights every day. My chocolate cheeks were constantly swallowing up every pair of underwear, and there were hardly enough adult “plus” sizes on the market. But I’m a Black woman, and my ass shape wasn’t’ accounted for.
Having my panties in a bunch became a regular thing that I got used to. It’s embarrassing to say I had back and frontal wedgies. So when I discovered Parade underwear, it’s like a weight I didn’t know I’d been carrying had been lifted.

If you still haven’t heard about Parade I don’t know what you’re waiting for. The sustainable Gen Z underwear brand has been going viral since it launched in October 2019. Besides the fact that underwear and its packaging are all made from recycled materials, they feel great. Not to mention, the brand carries sizes up to a 3X.

Parade is now my go-to plus size underwear brand for many reasons. One is that the undies aren’t constricting. The stretchy material plus the mesh inseam glides across your butt, letting it move with you and not against you. Ultimately, they feel like butter on the skin.
I don’t know if it’s that my inner Black girl believes she doesn’t deserve nice things or what. But I do know that I need to do a better job of allowing myself to treat myself with the things that make me comfortable. Not to mention, I definitely shouldn’t settle where underwear is concerned.
What are some of the necessary things you’re treating yourself to this year? Leave it all in the comments!
